We will host a Sing-Out/Teach-In on Sunday, March 30th from 1 to 3 PM at Madison Hall in Morrisville.Come and join us as we gear up to be loud and proud at upcoming resistance rallies! We will make signs with punchy messages, and we will raise our voices with songs and chants both classic and brand new! Songs and chants will be led by committed musicians from Cortland to Boonville, including Colleen Kattau, Rebecca Miner, Bruce Ward and Steve Blais.Shy novices, grizzled protest veterans and all in between are welcome!No admission charged (donations welcome). Hot beverages and snacks waiting. Some sign making materials provided but bring what you can. An RSVP to <a href="mailto:madisoncountydemocratsny@gmail.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">madisoncountydemocratsny@gmail.com</a> will be handy for us to get a head count in advance but is not required.Parking available at Brooks Hall across Route 20 from Madison Hall.

Sing-Out / Teach-In

We’re urging all working people, parents, students, and community members from across Madison County to come together for a May Day Strong rally — a pro-democracy demonstration on Thursday, May 1, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Hamilton Village Green.This rally will be part of a wave of May Day events happening across Upstate New York and the nation, standing up for working families and our democracy. Bring a Food Donation!In partnership with the Eaton Democrats, the rally will also include a food drive benefiting the Hamilton Food Cupboard and the Morrisville Community Church Food Pantry. Please bring a non-perishable item to support our local food banks, which are already feeling the impact of federal funding cuts. This demonstration will follow a recent public forum hosted by the Hamilton Democrats, where local leaders — including Mayor RuthAnn Loveless and Town Supervisor Eve Ann Shwartz — warned of the real consequences of Trump administration policies:<ul><li>Major federal funding cuts that threaten essential services </li><li>Possible local tax hikes </li><li>Budget shortfalls on the county, town, and village levels</li></ul>This would be on top of the price increases area residents already are struggling with because of Trump’s trade wars.&nbsp; This is more than a rally — it’s a stand for our communities’ futures. Essentially, Trump is waging a war on working people, and this May Day Strong demonstration is one way to come together to show we won’t be silent in the face of policies that harm our neighbors and our values. Please see this important update from our friends at Cazenovia Call to Action: President Trump asked Representative Elise Stefanik, who represents NY-21, to stay in Congress rather than serve as ambassador to the United Nations, amid concern about the minuscule voting margin that Republicans hold in the House. &nbsp;So, an April 13 fundraiser planned in Cazenovia to support the Democratic candidate for the NY-21 seat, Blake Gendebien, has been postponed until late summer or fall of 2025 in preparation for Mr. Gendebien's run for office in 2026. xxxx You helped us flip NY-22 and elect John Mannion. Many of you helped flip NY-19 and elect Josh Riley. Now you can help to flip NY-21 and elect Blake Gendebien.Blake is a farmer from Lisbon, N.Y., near the St. Lawrence River. County Democratic Chairs all across NY-21 unanimously chose him to replace Elise Stefanik in Congress. Blake will run in a special election against a yet-to-be-named MAGA candidate. Special elections are unpredictable. Turnout is key. Every blue seat brings us closer to retaking the House.&nbsp;Dave Holmes, Carolyn Holmes, and Rhonda Fibiger have organized a fundraiser for Blake in Cazenovia on April 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. We will have hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. We are staging a Rally For Resistance from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 1, in the Village of Hamilton.&nbsp;We need to clearly demonstrate to our community and our elected officials that we’re ready to fight and do what is necessary to stop the outrageous actions of the Trump&nbsp;administration. Bring a sign or just yourself&nbsp;as we gather at the northern end of the Village Green. You can park along Broad Street or there is free&nbsp;parking at the Hamilton Public Library.&nbsp; Our theme is resistance, voicing our opposition to Trump's unconstitutional power grab and&nbsp;gutting of&nbsp;the federal workforce, which will harm services that seniors, veterans, farmers, and all of us in Madison County depend on. We want to make clear that NOBODY elected Elon, and he and his minions need&nbsp;to&nbsp;be prevented&nbsp;from accessing sensitive government databases. AND, we need to let folks know how the Republicans' <a href="https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Fuv2QidhJ/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">proposed budget</a> benefits only the wealthy, and hurts working families in our county.&nbsp; Some tips for Saturday:<ul><li>Lettering on your signs should be thick and easily seen from a distance. &nbsp;Messages on the front AND back are a bonus.</li><li>Keep on the sidewalk and out of the road. Stay safe!</li><li>Do not engage the opposition.&nbsp;If protesters engage in back and forth shouting, the message gets lost.&nbsp;</li><li>Please check our <a href="https://www.facebook.com/MadCoNYDems/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Facebook page</a> for any last-minute changes due to weather.&nbsp;</li><li>Be creative with your signs.&nbsp;Overall, it can sometimes be better to stay positive. Example: 'Support Public Education' and not 'No Cuts to Education.'
