The Madison County Democratic Committee invites you and your family and friends to a St. Patrick's Day Celebration on Saturday, March 8, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Enjoy live music, dancers from the Francis Academy of Irish Dance, and good craic (the Irish kind) at Theodore's Restaurant in Canastota. Madison County Democrats will host a Sing-Out/Teach-In on Sunday, March 30th from 1 to 3 PM at Madison Hall in Morrisville.Come and join us as we gear up to be loud and proud at upcoming resistance rallies! We will make signs with punchy messages, and we will raise our voices with songs and chants both classic and brand new! Songs and chants will be led by committed musicians from Cortland to Boonville, including Colleen Kattau, Rebecca Miner, Bruce Ward and Steve Blais.Shy novices, grizzled protest veterans and all in between are welcome!No admission charged (donations welcome). Hot beverages and snacks waiting. Some sign making materials provided but bring what you can. An RSVP to <a href="mailto:madisoncountydemocratsny@gmail.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">madisoncountydemocratsny@gmail.com</a> will be handy for us to get a head count in advance but is not required. Parking available at Brooks Hall across Route 20 from Madison Hall.

Now you can help to flip NY-21 and elect Blake Gendebien.Blake is a farmer from Lisbon, N.Y., near the St. Lawrence River. County Democratic Chairs all across NY-21 unanimously chose him to replace Elise Stefanik in Congress. Blake will run in a special election against a yet-to-be-named MAGA candidate. Special elections are unpredictable. Turnout is key. U.S. Rep. Several protesters traveled from as far away as Schenectady and Ithaca to attend.&nbsp; During the rally, people vowed to continue fighting what they called Trump’s unconstitutional overreach in eliminating the jobs of federal workers and slashing or eliminating programs authorized by Congress. Participants expressed concerns about the negative impact on the county’s veterans, who are at risk of losing access to key support systems and crisis hotlines because of the cuts announced by Trump and Elon Musk. Mannion, whose congressional district includes Madison County, riveted the crowd with an impassioned speech about protecting county residents and the Constitution. (See more <a href="https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1ACCKR6Z2j/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">photos</a> from the rally.) “We’re not going to stop! We’re not just in a constitutional crisis but we’re also in a misinformation and disinformation crisis,” the freshman congressman said. “We are on the right side of history. Our kids are depending on us, and our grandkids are depending on us to protect our democracy.” He urged the big crowd on the Village Green to support each other, to support Democrats working to counter the Trump administration, and to call local and state elected officials of both parties to make sure they are aware of their concerns Protesters, waving signs in the snow, also spoke about the negative impact on the county’s farmers because of Trump’s closure of the U.S. Agency of International Development. Local farmers had worked with the agency and planned their food production based on previous agreements, which were thrown out by Trump’s actions. Participants also expressed widespread condemnation of Trump’s handling of Ukraine and his Oval Office meeting with the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Warm Up for St. Pat's!

We are staging a Rally For Resistance from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 1, in the Village of Hamilton.&nbsp;We need to clearly demonstrate to our community and our elected officials that we’re ready to fight and do what is necessary to stop the outrageous actions of the Trump&nbsp;administration. Bring a sign or just yourself&nbsp;as we gather at the northern end of the Village Green. You can park along Broad Street or there is free&nbsp;parking at the Hamilton Public Library.&nbsp; Our theme is resistance, voicing our opposition to Trump's unconstitutional power grab and&nbsp;gutting of&nbsp;the federal workforce, which will harm services that seniors, veterans, farmers, and all of us in Madison County depend on. We want to make clear that NOBODY elected Elon, and he and his minions need&nbsp;to&nbsp;be prevented&nbsp;from accessing sensitive government databases. AND, we need to let folks know how the Republicans' <a href="https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Fuv2QidhJ/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">proposed budget</a> benefits only the wealthy, and hurts working families in our county.&nbsp; Some tips for Saturday:<ul><li>Lettering on your signs should be thick and easily seen from a distance. &nbsp;Messages on the front AND back are a bonus.</li><li>Keep on the sidewalk and out of the road. Stay safe!</li><li>Do not engage the opposition.&nbsp;If protesters engage in back and forth shouting, the message gets lost.&nbsp;</li><li>Please check our <a href="https://www.facebook.com/MadCoNYDems/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Facebook page</a> for any last-minute changes due to weather.&nbsp;</li><li>Be creative with your signs.&nbsp;Overall, it can sometimes be better to stay positive.
